Mayhem, Magic and Monsters
A book by Hollie Day
It is the story of five piggy friends: almost human and each with their own peculiar little quirks. They all live in a small village called Pigalilly-Hamlet, a usually peaceful place surrounded by swamp and forest. The story is narrated by Big H, the village elder; a larger than life character with a love of cider!
The tale starts off with a spell of very hot weather and Ear-Wiggy, the leader of the gang, tries to invent a fly repellent to alleviate the onslaught of annoying insects. Following an accident with the formula and the ensuing clean-up operation, the five friends wander down to the stream to wash away the grime of their busy day. While there, they are greeted with a bellowing voice coming from the gloom, demanding to know what they are doing there. Terrified, the friends run back to the safety of their Wig-Hams.
Upon waking the next day, they soon realise that something very strange is afoot in their little community. When the full implications of the mystery start to unravel, they have no choice but to enlist the help of Whinola; a magical high priestess who dwells within an enchanted oak tree, deep in the heart of the forest. With the combined strength and wisdom of the other magical creatures in her council, she teaches the brave pigs all they need to know to defeat the evil presence of Swag, the grotesque monster that lurks in the swamp.
This book is the first in a series of five: each of which will focus on a different of the five main characters as the hero of the story. The second book is currently in production.
